  • Lifelong San Bernardino resident.
  • Grew up in the 3rd Ward with his parents and grandparents.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree & Master’s Degree from California State University, San Bernardino.

Medical Social Worker

  • Empowering patients and helping families to get the resources for needed medical care.
  • Started a Clothing Donation Program for needy hospital patients.

Neighborhood Leader

  • Past President of the Amtrak Neighborhood Association.
  • Former Boardmember with the Neighborhood Association Council.
  • Hosted Neighborhood Block Cleanups to remove blight

Active Community Volunteer

  • Organized community cleanups at Lytle Creek Park.
  • Hosted the 1st local Community HoHo Parade arrival party.
  • Tutored San Bernardino Valley College students.
  • Co-Hosted a Backpack Donation for children’s back-to-school.

Supporting Public Safety

  • Partnering with our new Police Chief:  Juan is working closely with our dynamic new Chief, Darren Goodman, to reduce violent crime in our city.
  • More Officers Being Hired:  Working to restore the 100 police officer positions that San Bernardino lost during its bankruptcy and increase police patrols to better protect our neighborhoods.
  • Expanded Community Policing:  Opened a new Police substation at the Inland Center Mall to improve response times, bring our police resources closer to the people and better serve residents of the 3rd Ward.  

 

Addressing Homelessness & Housing Affordability

  • Securing More Resources:  Partnered with Assemblyman James Ramos to expand mental health and drug addiction treatment resources for the homeless.
  • Opening Patton State Hospital for Homeless Treatment:  Provide a safe and secure treatment environment to help the long-term homeless get off the street.
  • Support New Housing for San Bernardino Families:  Work with home builders to provide local families with greater opportunities for home ownership.

Improving Our Neighborhoods

  • Organizing Community Cleanups:  Juan works regularly with San Bernardino Code Enforcement and local community organizations to improve our parks and clean up blighted properties.  
  • Repairing Local Streets:  Secured funding to improve Lytle Creek Park; replace the bridge on Mt. Vernon Avenue, expedite street improvements on Pepper Avenue, and install a new crosswalk to improve safety in the Colony Park neighborhood.
  • Engaging Residents:  A former 3rd Ward Neighborhood President, Juan meets regularly with 3rd Ward neighborhood associations and community groups to listen to residents and respond to local concerns.
